Recently, at a protected agriculture park in Songshan District, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, reporters observed rows of greenhouse structures covered with brand-new multifunctional greenhouse film, where cucumbers, tomatoes, and other vegetables were thriving. "In previous years, low temperatures inside the greenhouse at this time would slow vegetable growth, delaying harvest until mid-April. This year, with the new multifunctional film, the insulation effect has been exceptional—nighttime temperatures inside are 5–8°C higher than with ordinary film, allowing the vegetables to mature over 20 days earlier. They’re already being harvested and sold in bulk, fetching over 1 yuan more per jin," said grower Liu Yanhong cheerfully while picking cucumbers.

According to the head of the Songshan District Agricultural Technology Extension Station, the newly promoted multifunctional greenhouse film integrates multiple features such as thermal insulation, light transmission, anti-fogging, and disease resistance. Produced using a three-layer co-extrusion process, its inner layer incorporates an anti-drip and anti-fog agent, effectively reducing condensation inside the greenhouse and preventing moisture buildup on crop leaves that can lead to diseases. The outer layer is enhanced with anti-aging and UV-blocking agents, extending the film’s service life to over three years—one to two years longer than conventional greenhouse film. Designed to address the cold winters and limited sunlight in northern regions, the film achieves a light transmittance of over 95%, maximizing the use of natural light and heat to promote crop photosynthesis. Currently, over 80,000 mu of this new multifunctional greenhouse film have been promoted in Chifeng City, covering various crops such as protected vegetables and fruits. It is estimated to increase farmers' income by more than 2,000 yuan per mu. Industry experts note that the widespread adoption of this advanced greenhouse film provides strong support for the high-yield and high-efficiency development of protected agriculture in northern China.
